Staffy Dogs and Their Magpie Companion Share a Bond That Melts Hearts
Riley Howard

Animals demonstrate regularly that friendship isn't limited by species, and the trio of Peggy, Ruby, and Molly is a perfect case in point.
Peggy and Ruby make up a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mother-and-daughter pair, and they accepted Molly the magpie into their home without hesitation. This bird is treated as a pet just like the dogs, and she receives just as much pampering as her canine sisters. Although the affection among these three is clear, many people still do a double take when they see a magpie nestled in with the rest of the family.
On April 15, Molly the magpie and Peggy, the mother dog, displayed their bond with a tender cuddle. According to the post, they 'fall more in love' every day, and the moment is simply precious.
These companions set a high standard for friendship. No animal behaviorist is needed to recognize how at ease both creatures are. Peggy even appears to have been fast asleep while her feathered friend snuggled close.
"The little foot holding the paw got me," shared a commenter named Donna. It really is charming. This kind of behavior isn't commonly observed among birds in the wild, which suggests it may have been picked up by watching humans and the Staffies express affection through physical touch.
Some other commenters drew attention to the 'love bites' from the pet bird. She is likely attempting to groom her companion, which is unquestionably a sign of affection among magpies. What stands out most is the moment right after she nibbles on Peggy, when she settles back down for a comfortable nap in the spot where she feels most secure.
Bonds Across Species
Molly and her Staffordshire Terrier companions offer one of the sweetest illustrations of a friendship between different species, yet in truth, nearly any animals could form a friendship. Whether it's a Golden Retriever swimming alongside an otter or a Yellow Lab leaping onto horseback, trust and affection between animals can appear in countless forms.
Dogs aren't the only creatures capable of befriending animals of other species. It might be pets, farm animals, or even wild animals that develop relationships with one another, but regardless of which animals are involved, cross-species friendships are always something special.
