Newfoundland Dog Ignores Couch Ban and Settles In for a Nap
Jamie Evans

Newfoundlands, affectionately known as Newfies, resemble oversized teddy bears and rank among the largest dog breeds globally. Adult females usually weigh 100 to 120 pounds, while males tip the scales at 130 to 150 pounds. Given their substantial size, many owners prohibit them from lounging on furniture, and a recent video perfectly illustrates the reason behind that rule.
Rocco takes center stage in the footage, fully aware that the couch is off-limits. Yet he operates by his own code and clearly sets his own boundaries. He hoists himself up anyway, shoves cushions out of the way to create space, and stretches out. Once he's settled, he appears utterly relaxed—and completely indifferent to having broken the household rule.
What's endearing is that Rocco understands the restriction but carries on as if it doesn't apply to him, acting like the undisputed ruler of the home.
Viewers React with Humor to Rocco's Couch Takeover
Although the clip didn't generate much buzz on TikTok, it racked up close to 8,000 comments on Instagram from people amused by Rocco claiming the forbidden sofa.
One standout remark came from @dokenator2016: "For crying out loud, get him a large couch or a sectional. Also, a snack tray and the remote." @lara.gurol confessed, "I thought this was a bear." Over 200 users echoed that sentiment, and @cypres200's reply—"It is!"—had us chuckling.
@ashkenneyphoto nailed it with, "That's his sofa now! Get your own!" @leto_tornado observed, "He looks SO BIG until he curls up in the pillows and melts into the cushions…then just a wee little sweetheart!"
Commenter @petalsanpearls noted, "He literally made the perfect comfy place on the couch in such a chaotic way LOL!" @gardener091454 chimed in, "He is exhausted after all the pillow rearranging. He needed to rest." @janetg51 agreed, "Well, he used up 9,000 calories getting in that position, he deserves a little snooze LOL!"
It remains unclear whether his owners made him get down or simply let him nap there. Trying to order him off would be a daunting task!
