Hungarian Herding Breeds: The Puli and Komondor
The Magyar people have spent thousands of years herding across the steppes of Eastern Europe. Over that time, they bred several remarkable working dogs to guard their flocks, and two of these stand out as particularly unique.
The Puli typically served as the shepherd's right hand, helping to move and manage the herd. The Komondor, a larger breed, was developed to keep watch over the flock and spring into action when danger threatened.
Both breeds are extraordinary, and each one merits a name with genuine Hungarian roots.

How to Choose a Name
The list above shows that a suitable dog name tends to have just one or two syllables and often ends in a vowel. Keeping these points in mind when you pick a name will make things easier for your Puli or Komondor.
Should none of these Hungarian options appeal to you and you look elsewhere, stick to the same principles. Avoid choosing a three- or four-syllable word that will only puzzle your dog during training. Numerous websites offer dog name lists, but make sure you do not select a name your dog will not come to.
Steer clear of silly names or ones that sound nearly identical to another dog's name in your home.
Also, try not to pick a name that is overused. Calling your dog Max or Bella might be simple, but those are the most common dog names around. Many dogs at the park already answer to them.
Your Hungarian dog is one of a kind. Give him a name that is authentic and distinctive.
