Turkish-Inspired Names for Your Anatolian Shepherd

About the Anatolian Shepherd

The Anatolian Shepherd is a massive breed originating from Turkey, historically developed to guard livestock against predators. Bred thousands of years ago to be large enough to fend off wolves and bears, these dogs have adapted over time to the rugged climate of the Anatolian Plateau.

If you are fortunate enough to welcome one of these intelligent dogs into your home, keep in mind that it will grow to as much as 65 kilograms (about 150 pounds). Early socialization and obedience training are essential from the start.

Choosing a Name for Training Success

Select a name that will facilitate obedience training. An ideal name consists of two syllables, ends with a vowel or a sound that grabs your attention, and is simple to say.

The names provided below are all authentic, and I have already filtered out hundreds that do not meet good training standards. Even if you like the meaning of a name but find it difficult to pronounce or unpleasant to your ear, do not use it.

Remember to begin training with the new name right away.

Why ID Tags Matter

Anatolian Shepherds have a tendency to roam. Once you have selected a name for your dog, make sure to get a collar that displays his name and your phone number.

During your next vet visit, inquire about microchipping your dog.

These steps could be lifesaving if your dog ever gets lost.

General Naming Tips

Did you find any Turkish names you like? If not and you want to explore other sites for more Turkish names, keep these points in mind:

  • Choose only short, easy-to-pronounce names. If you find a long name that you really have to use, then decide on a nickname that you will use to call your dog and start using it right away during training.
  • Avoid overly common names from top 10 or top 25 dog name lists.
  • Do not give your dog a silly name that he will outgrow.
  • Take plenty of photos. Your Anatolian Shepherd will grow up quickly, and you will want to cherish and remember the days ahead!

Best of Luck

I hope you have learned all about the Anatolian Shepherd before bringing one home, but if you have not seen this video yet, take a few minutes and watch a little more.
