Walmart Is Selling a Plush Cat Tunnel That Gives Felines Plenty of Doorways to Pounce From

Most cat tunnels serve a single function: giving your cat a hiding spot to lurk in until some unsuspecting person walks by with bare ankles. Walmart's WINDRACING Square Cat Tunnel Bed takes that concept much further, turning it into a full-on plush playground for felines, complete with several entry points, hanging toys, and a large cushion at its center.

The tunnel is extra large, measuring 39 by 30 inches with a 9.5-inch interior height. That gives cats up to 22 pounds enough space to crawl, play, and snooze. Those dimensions made me think right away of my Maine Coon, Meatball, who is not a fan of furniture that forces him to contort himself into a compact ball of fur.

This Cat Tunnel Can Be Reshaped

The tunnel pieces join together with zippers and can be set up in O or S shapes. That means cat owners can switch up the configuration whenever their pets get tired of the current one. If you connect more than one unit, you can build even bigger figure-eight or circular setups for cats who seem to demand their own personalized transit network.

A frame made of reinforced steel wire helps the tunnel keep its form when cats pounce energetically, rather than caving in on whoever is inside. Thanks to the multiple openings, it's easy to play peekaboo or stash toys throughout the tunnel, and the fuzzy balls dangling near the entrances invite batting and stalking.

Once all the surprise attacks are over, the thick cushion in the middle offers a soft place to sleep. It can be removed for machine washing, and the understated gray plush blends easily into a living room or bedroom without making it look like a cat daycare center.

Small dogs are able to use the tunnel bed as well, though it's common knowledge that cats will stake their claim first and start demanding rent.

Reviewers Report That It Keeps Smart Cats Busy

One customer bought the large size for two adult cats that like to sleep together in the center. Even though the cats hadn't yet gone through the tunnel, they were already swatting at the fuzzy toys around its openings.

A different reviewer picked it up for a very high-energy, clever kitten who is always looking for a challenge. "This tunnel has turned out to be an amazing way to keep him busy and thinking all the time," the reviewer said.

That kitten even protested when his owner rearranged the tunnel, and he routinely hunts for toys she hides inside it. The family now spends video calls watching him play and calls the tunnel their "best investment in a long time."

Some cats might need a while to check things out before going in, but that's just how cats operate. First they're afraid of it, then they inspect it, and finally they take ownership of it. And of you.
