One Target customer shared their enthusiasm: “My cat LOVES it. A box with a scratcher in it? My cat went inside, scratched it, and lay in it. Probably going to be buying another one just to have as a backup. It’s genius.”

There are several reasons cats enjoy scratchers. For one, scratching is a productive way for them to claim territory. Providing a designated scratching spot can help protect furniture like your couch, as scratches leave both visual and scent markers. Additionally, scratching is a natural behavior that helps cats maintain their claws by shedding the outer layers, which is important for nail health.

Scratching also gives cats a chance to stretch and exercise, which is particularly beneficial for indoor cats. It serves as a stress reliever and an emotional outlet for times when they are excited, anxious, or seeking attention. Materials that work well for scratchers include paper, cardboard, sisal rope, and carpet—all of which imitate what cats might scratch in nature, like trees and plants.

Target carries a broad range of holiday-themed pet toys, treats, and costumes. The Boots & Barkley Christmas-Themed Cat Tree is a standout, offering cats an additional play zone and possibly diverting them from your actual Christmas tree. The Boots & Barkley Crinkle Bag is another option to keep cats entertained. A holiday-themed tunnel and scratch pad for cats is also gaining popularity among Target shoppers.
