Great Ideas for Naming Your New Feline Friend

Picking a name for a new cat might not be easy. Whether you prefer to spend days researching, go with your gut, or simply choose the first name that comes to mind, remember that this name will stay with your cat for years. As long as the name isn't offensive, there's really no wrong choice.

Guidelines for Picking a Great Cat Name

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

Try to choose a name with one or two syllables. This makes it simpler to call your cat. Plus, shorter names are more likely to fit on a tag. For example, a name like “Mr. Bojangles” would be cumbersome to repeat and doesn't exactly trip off the tongue.
When brainstorming, draw from your favorite books, songs, shows, or places. This can spark plenty of name ideas.
Check with everyone in the household to ensure they approve of the name. From my own experience, if someone dislikes it, they simply won't use it. That can lead to confusion for both the cat and the owner.
Most importantly, enjoy the process. Your cat is part of the family, and its name matters. Try to find a name that matches your kitten's personality!

One-Syllable Cat Names

Opting for a one-syllable name makes it easier to call your cat and increases the chances of it fitting on a tag. Here are some excellent one-syllable options:

Max
Scout
Bear
Scat
Kat
Sky
Eve
Boo
Grey
Faith
Thor
Buzz
Blaze
Doll
