On the tip of that door sat a small green baby bird. He jumped onto me, scaled up to my neck, and nestled into my hair. Six hundred dollars lighter, we left the store with a large cage, baby bird formula, seeds and dried fruit, plus toys, bowls, and water containers. Twice daily is preferable, since they like to dip dry foods and spit into their water. This is painful to admit. Many people are like me. They love their conure so deeply that they can't say no and put them in their own beds. The little ones end up crushed by their loving owners in the middle of the night. These birds are so affectionate that it's natural for them to throw a tantrum and sulk when you put them away. It's difficult, but you have to tell them no.",[20,108,109],{},"He also likes to bathe with me, so I have to be careful the water isn't too hot. He'll spread his wings and float on the surface. His preferred bathing spot is near my face, clinging to my hair so he doesn't go under. He likes to lie there and relax as I do, and groom my hair. If you don't have ample time and interest in loving a bird, please don't get this precious little clown. His heart will break, he'll be perpetually lonely, and he'll likely die young. He needs plenty of exercise and physical contact. He'll enjoy being groomed and scratched all over, especially around his face and even his beak. Don't clean your oven with oven cleaner while your bird is in the house. I know someone who did that and it killed her sweet baby, breaking her heart. Teflon in any form is toxic to birds. If you use a room heater, make sure it's ceramic, not Teflon. Keep your bird out of the kitchen when using Teflon pans.",[20,136,137],{},"Use vinegar to clean your bird's cage and accessories. My boyfriend, knowing how much I loved this bird, was trying very hard not to hurt him while being viciously bitten. Tikko draws blood when he bites. Keep that in mind when purchasing a parrot, even a small one.",[20,160,161],{},"My boyfriend was furious that I was laughing until I couldn't talk or breathe, tears streaming down my face. He asked me a question he probably shouldn't have: If I had to choose between him and the bird, who would I choose? I'll never understand, to this day, why he would ask me that question at precisely that moment, but he did. My inability to answer was answer enough, I suppose, which made him even angrier.",[20,163,164],{},"My granddaughter was a bit more understanding. Tikko attacked and bit her every time she tried to love him or take him out of the cage. She would want to hold him, then cry when he bit her, every time. I finally told her, if she wanted to be part of a bird family, she would have to expect to get bitten or leave him alone.",[20,166,167],{},"Eventually, he came to love and trust her as much as he did me, and they became very close. Now she can handle him without issue. She is the only person I can leave him to if I die before he does, which is quite likely since I'm 52, he's five, and he'll live another 20 years—at least that's my
